Alice Henningsen, LMSW

Born and raised in Colorado, with educational and professional stints in Wichita, Kansas, Alice brings a diverse blend of experiences and qualifications to the Colorado Paralysis Foundation (CPF).

Holding a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and a Master’s degree in Social Work, her academic background lays a solid foundation for understanding and addressing the multifaceted needs of individuals. Alice’s passion lies in advocating for those who have been systematically marginalized.

Before her 2020 transition into being a C2-level quadriplegic, Alice gained invaluable experience at the Wichita Children’s Home, where she honed her skills as a Campus Supervisor and was cross-trained in various roles. This job allowed Alice to witness firsthand the challenges individuals face navigating complex systematic barriers, inspiring her to continue working with individuals facing extreme situations. After leaving that nonprofit, Alice pursued a job at the Wichita Area Sexual Assault Center, where she helped manage a 24-hour hotline and provided medical advocacy, equipped with the ability to collaborate effectively within interdisciplinary to provide comprehensive support in advocacy for survivors.

Investing in others through one-to-one mentorship has always been at the core of Alice’s values, and she has actively sought out these opportunities since her undergraduate years. Currently, she facilitates a spinal cord class at Craig Hospital and mentor’s others discharged from rehab. As Vice President of the CPF, Alice is dedicated to leveraging her expertise and passion to drive meaningful change, promoting independence, inclusion, and quality of life for individuals living with paralysis. Together, she believes we can make a profound impact and create a more equitable and accessible future for all.

For fun, Alice enjoys spending time with those she is close with, hosting gatherings, exploring new restaurants, and doing anything outdoors. She is a self-proclaimed lizard and get her dopamine hits from soaking up sunlight.
